Sotheby's Institute of Art x THE BLANC

7 brings together seven emerging curators from Sotheby’s Institute of Art and a dynamic group of contemporary artists for a week-long exhibition at THE BLANC in New York City, running from May 8 to May 15. Each curator–artist pairing offers a unique perspective, resulting in a series of immersive experiences that span installation, painting, and photography. Unified by experimentation and cross-disciplinary dialogue, the exhibition reimagines the relationship between curator and artist, and invites viewers into a space where creative boundaries are continuously redefined.
7 represents a bold departure from traditional curatorial practices, inviting viewers to embark on a transformative journey through the synergistic visions of these innovative curatorial voices. The exhibition challenges the very notion of singular authorship, embracing the complexities of collaborative curation and offering a powerful platform for experimentation. Faced with the formidable task of weaving a cohesive narrative while celebrating individuality, the seven curators from Sotheby’s Institute of Art (SIA) have crafted a dynamic dialogue between uniformity and innovation. The selected works transcend conventional boundaries, inviting audiences to rethink the role of the curator and the artist in shaping contemporary discourse.
7 represents the culmination of SIA's commitment to nurturing curatorial excellence, building upon the success of previous exhibitions, "Persona: The Art of Self-Expression" and "Destiny vs. Will: Navigating the Maze of Modern Existence." This extraordinary cohort of curators and artists has come together to unveil a dynamic and diverse exhibition that delivers exhilarating perspectives and innovative storytelling for the future of contemporary art.
