DANCE

- Tomoko Iki

I am dedicated to photography and dancing.

Taking photos is synonymous with dance.

One day, while dancing in the forest, it gave me an inspiration.

Nature lives and dances with mankind.

Dance has been a part of culture, dating back to prehistoric times.

It has always been a way for people to connect with each other and the environment around them.

We engage in dance for intrinsic reward to understand the laws of nature.

The act of taking photographs is empathy and capturing the connection between the subject.

Every movement is like a ritual, highly attuned and conscious to read and acknowledge the interconnections between myself and natural world.

I pursue the art of multiple exposure.

As if it dances and unites with nature.

What do you see in the layers of Light.

The intensity in which we are experiencing global challenges,

it questions us the cultivation of human relationships with nature.

To reconnect and find the light within.

Tomoko Iki is a  fine art photographer born in Japan. Graduated from Department of Human Environment Design, School of Life Studies, Sugiyama Jogakuen University. She was taken with the desire to do photography and dance at the same time in her life. For her, these are two sides of the same creative force, and they mutually inform one another. Her dance influences her photography. Through dance she explores her own spirit. It is a meditation and ritual in which she offers herself to nature. Dance has revealed to her a deep sense of her own femininity as well as the ancient human desire to connect with the divine. With her photographs, she tries to convey this universal desire and how movement through dance moves us forward toward truth.
