Form vs. Fiber

Dec 07 - Dec 13 2024

THE BLANC x pylot

Amid a time of rapid change and shifting boundaries, Form vs. Fiber delves into the profound interplay between the artist's instinct to create and their responsiveness to the materials they engage with. At its core, Form vs. Fiber invites viewers to witness the artist’s urge to manipulate both organic and inorganic materials, wrestling with the question of whether the material conforms to the artist’s vision, or if the material itself dictates the outcome.

In this dynamic relationship, the exhibition becomes a mirror for the broader struggle of balancing control with acceptance—a balance that resonates deeply in today’s political and social climate. How do we, as artists, friends, and collective voices, navigate these structures that shape our identities and experiences, while finding the courage to challenge and redefine them?

As we grapple with uncertainties surrounding climate change, political instability, and the dismantling or reinforcement of long-standing systems, the parallels to the artist’s process become striking. Through this lens, the exhibition becomes not just a reflection on the act of creation, but a broader call to consider how we interact with the materials of our world—whether they are physical, cultural, or ideological—and to reimagine our relationship with them in a time when adaptation and redefinition are vital.

Together, these artists present an interdisciplinary exploration of materiality, memory, and identity. Influenced by immigrant experiences, spirituality, and scientific theories, these pieces invite viewers to reconsider familiar concepts from layered perspectives, ultimately debunking subconscious biases.

Form vs. Fiber offers a platform for innovative perspectives, urging viewers to engage with textiles, crafts, and familiar objects in ways that challenge their perceptions and expand the dialogue about the cultural and emotional weight of the materials around us.
