Scripting

Solid is a matter of presence, and Void is the absence of it. Solid marks its presence by the physical experiences through all different senses; Void means nothingness, like a featureless terrain, it translates to a focus on the spaces in between the physical experiences and implied contexts.
What will happen when the boundary between solid and void is re-scripted?
SCRIPTING is a juried group exhibition with work that evoke the juxtaposing feelings of both brittleness and malleability within technology and the materials which compose it. The blurry lines between the rigidity that composes modern technological innovation and self-imposed expression on those same technological tools have created a series of works that are aesthetically engaging and oftentimes narratively conflicting for the viewer. Overall, the creation in this exhibition is no longer solely understood as an expression of the artist’s inner creativity, but also as a result of the collaboration between the artist, observer, and the world around.
This juried group exhibition of seven artworks focuses on the intersectional relationship between technology, materiality, and humanism. The jury team consists of two renowned experts in Art representing diverse aesthetic training and expertise. Morgan Mueller is an accomplished art educator at The New School and a creative technologist focusing on data visualization at NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Elvin Ou is a prominent digital artist with previous teaching experience at Pratt Institute and currently creating phy-gital experience at Coach. In the statement of this exhibition, the curatorial team at TheBlanc Art Spcae begs a question: “what will happen when the boundary between solid and void is re-scripted?” If I understand it correctly, the analogy of “solid and void” here is addressing the dynamic between the physical experience and the implied context of the arts, especially digital art. “Solid” can be referring to materiality and “void” can represent the intangibility of the virtual. Now, let’s circle back to the question asked above: how exactly can we rescript the line between solid and void? A deep dive into the works of these artists might offer us some answers.
