Book Making Workshops
A four-part workshop series that guides participants in creating their own unique artist books through hands-on techniques.

This workshop will guide participants through the process of creating their own artist book. The artisan book-making workshop series will consist of four classes, each focusing on a different book-making technique, including bookbinding techniques, paper cutting, and other basic skills needed to make a beautiful and unique artist book. In class one, attendees will learn about photo transferring and two different maze fold book structures, as well as techniques for making soft covers. Class two will cover similar techniques with a focus on map fold book structures. Class three will cover accordion fold structures and techniques for making hardcovers. Finally, class four will cover the history of artists' books and the concept of "bookness," as well as teach the pamphlet stitch structure and techniques for making soft covers. Each class will allow participants to create their own book to take home.

Artist
Marilia Destot
Marilia Destot is a french photographer, living and working in New York. Her personal work focuses, through portrait, dance and landscapes series, on the writing of time cycling and passing by, and our trace within it. Memory, recorded and revisited, in its most subjective and poetic ways, is at the core of her research. She keeps experimenting the photo-medium into different narrative and visual dimensions: chronophotography, diaries, sequences, correspondence, open forms where the subject can expend through repetitions, variations, lapses. And reveals itself in fragments, echoes, illusions, free to float and resonate with the viewer’s imagination and intimate world.
