Nocturnes

A cross-cultural musical meditation that reflects on death, love, and transformation.

Nocturnes is a cross-cultural concert exploring the entangled themes of death and love through music, memory, and reflection. Drawing inspiration from the Chinese Han Yi Festival and Mexico’s Día de los Muertos, the program contemplates mortality and emotional resilience through a two-part musical journey: Restless Anxious and Meditative Contemplation. Featuring a diverse selection of works—from Beethoven and Tan Dun to traditional Chinese classics like Funeral of the Flowers and The Butterfly Lovers—the evening presents a layered dialogue between Eastern and Western expressions of loss, remembrance, and affection. An immersive intermission, enriched by sensory culinary elements, invites the audience to connect with cultural rituals and their own lived experiences. Through this program, Nocturneshonors universal human emotions and supports the artistic growth of emerging performers while offering a space for shared reflection, empathy, and renewal.
