November 7 | Midtown Live: SHERMVN & Estefanía Núñez Villamandos

Saturday, November 7 | 7:30–9:30 PM

Jazz, Electronics & Multimedia | Curated by Neil Leonard

An evening of jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and experimental sound with SHERMVN and Estefania Núñez Villamandos.

THE BLANC presents an evening of sound and cultural storytelling with baritone saxophonist and composer Ziaire Trinidad Sherman (SHERMVN) and Cuban pianist and composer Estefanía Núñez Villamandos. Each artist presents a set new solo works for their NYC debut. Drawing on the cultural legacies of the Black diaspora, Sherman connects history and futurism through improvisation, breath, and experimental sound. Núñez blends Afro-Cuban musical roots with jazz into an expressive piano language that speaks to personal experience and collective memory. Bringing together the resonant depth of the baritone saxophone and the piano’s rich textures, the two artists enter a musical dialogue rooted in their distinct cultural traditions and creative perspectives, inviting audiences to explore connections across place and time.

November 14 | Pulsing Sound: String Trios of the 18th and 20th Century

Saturday, November 14 | 7:30–9:00 PM

THE BLANC × Forest Hills Chamber Music Series | Curated by Sofia Ouyang

The second installment of Pulsing Sound presents an evening of chamber music spanning two centuries, featuring Abigail Fayette (violin), Laura Liu (viola), and Ari Evan (cello).

Through works by Mozart, Schoenberg, and Gideon Klein, the program explores contrasting musical languages, from the elegance and emotional depth of Mozart's Divertimento for String Trio to the passionate dissonances of Klein and the adventurous sound world of Schoenberg.

Bringing familiar masterworks into conversation with lesser-heard compositions, this concert invites audiences to discover the expressive possibilities of the string trio across generations.

Musicians

Estefania Núñez Villamandos is a Cuban pianist, film composer, and arranger whose work blends Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz, and cinematic influences into a deeply expressive and narrative-driven sound. A graduate of the Global Jazz Institute at Berklee College of Music, where she earned a Master of Music in Global Jazz, her work explores the intersection of music, film, and social impact through projects such as her thesis The Enigma of Misunderstood Minds.

She has performed at Panama Jazz Festival, Vermont Jazz Festival, Charles River Jazz Festival, Cambridge Jazz Festival and Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. She has collaborated with Aida Cuevas, Daymé Arocena, Harold López-Nussa, Arturo O’Farrill, and others. Estefania is the founder and bandleader of Mestizas, who have toured in the US and Europe and is currently recording a new album.

Ziaire Trinidad Sherman (SHERMVN) is a baritone saxophonist and multidisciplinary artist. Drawing from the cultural legacies of the Black diaspora, his practice explores sound, memory and technology through a fusion of futuristic and historical elements. Sherman’s work is rooted in improvisation and storytelling, often engaging computer-based processes to evoke distant and collective memory. Through immersive soundscapes, exposed breath and experimental design, Sherman invites audiences into reflective, sensorial experiences that connect personal narrative with broader historical frameworks. He has performed at Fabrica Research Centre, Treviso; MIT Media Lab, Cambridge; documenta, Kassel; Sharjah Biennale.

Praised for his “evocative, impassioned” playing and “remarkable security,” (NY Concert Review, Shostakovich Concerto No. 1) cellist Ari Evan’s performing career spans through North America and Europe. He has soloed with the Lviv Philharmonic, Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia, Vienna Concert Orchestra, Greenwich Village Orchestra, and Pegasus: The Orchestra. Ari has performed as guest cellist with the Rolston String Quartet, Quatuor MONA, Aeolus Quartet, and Flux Quartet, and has world-premiered chamber music works by Augusta Reed Thomas, Aaron J Kernis, Philip Lasser, and Pieter Schuermans. He has served as guest principal with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and has toured with Orpheus and the East Coast Chamber Orchestra (ECCO).

The youngest of four string-playing children, violinist Abigail Fayette hails from a musical family in Long Island, New York. She has performed with renowned artists such as Jonathan Biss, Brett Dean, Kim Kashkashian, and others. As an active touring musician, Ms. Fayette’s performances have taken her all over the world with appearances spanning across the United States, Europe, and Asia. She has toured with Musicians from Marlboro, The Knights, Curtis Chamber Orchestra, and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. Currently, she is a member of the Grammy-nominated Catalyst Quartet and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, where she was named Artistic Director in 2023.

Laura Liu, a native of Miami, Florida known for “sound deep, warm, and consistently musical”currently lives in NYC studying with Cynthia Phelps and Misha Amory at The Juilliard School (Classical Voice America). Liu’s love of collaboration has led her to pursue a life in chamber music. In the summer of 2026, Liu appeared as an artist at Marlboro Music Festival, Moritzburg Festival, Tippet Rise Art Center, and Rome Chamber Music Festival. Her summer performance of Mozart’s G-minor Piano Quartet alongside Mitsuko Uchida, Stephanie Zyzak, and Elena Ariza was described by the New York Times as “unerringly natural.”

The Forest Hills Chamber Music Series was founded in 2019 by cellist Ari Evan and Cantor Emily Wigod Pincus of the Reform Temple of Forest Hills. Taking place at the synagogue Ari grew up attending, FHCMS aims to highlight Jewish composers of the past 150 by pairing their works with more standard 18th and 19th century masterworks of a similar instrumentation. By showcasing composers new and old, famous and lesser known, Ari and Cantor Pincus hope to connect with the greater Forest Hills community through music and faith, in hopes of broadening their artistic horizons. This collaboration with The BLANC marks a very important milestone for FHCMS, as its first concert to take place outside of the Reform Temple of Forest Hills!

EBBA is an NYC-based Swedish singer-songwriter and pianist redefining jazz for a new generation. A Berklee Presidential Scholar, she blends jazz fluency with modern songwriting, creating a sound that is both sophisticated and fearless. She has toured and recorded with Jon Batiste, collaborates with Dana and Alden (Concord Jazz), and appears on the Talking Heads tribute Naive Melodies on BBE. Earlier in 2026, EBBA released her debut EP, Somewhere.
