BEHIND THE SEEN explores further layers of lights, shadows, colors and saturations beyond what meets the eyes. The exhibition presents a series of photographs by Yongqi Liu, and takes the viewer on a journey to explore beyond the “seen” through the photographer's lens.
A picture speaks a thousand words. Photography carries the power of showing us many worlds, all within this one we reside in. A simple image can convey an idea more quickly and sufficiently than the written words. What makes reality different for people? Is it the perspectives formed, the colors seen, or the concepts understood? Through Yongqi’s lens, what’s often a passed over moment is captured in full awareness. With his acute observation of his subjects and his mastery of exposures, angles and color spectrums, Yongqi develops his own visual language to tell the stories behind each image captured in diverse multitudes. His honesty in delivering what’s perceived at the moment between his subject and his inner world shows the viewer a vast array of experiences. Whether it’s a moment captured within a serene atmosphere or of a defiant presence, his work prompts the viewer to examine, in their own ways, the unseen instances in their daily acquaintance.
To show the “seen” in other perspectives, BEHIND THE SEEN encourages viewers to lean in and explore beyond what’s caught on an eye-level, and to see the world in more depth with a twist of imagination.
